Merriam-Webster gives a perfect definition to the word “authentic”- real or genuine; not copied of false.

The question of authenticity rises when we talk about crafted furniture pieces. You will be surprised by the number of people that will not settle down with “inspired by”, “just as good as” or “in the spirit of”. The knockoffs simply hurt the future of design.

In recent years, more and more vendors started stamping a logo, designer’s signature or serial number on the products they produce in an effort to combat counterfeiters. There are some that also include certificate of authenticity with each product.

So, how do you know if it’s real or fake?2552025insb

1. Find it’s stamp or serial number if you know it should have one

2. Examine the piece well. Its frame should be very meticulously constructed with smooth and consistent seams. The most important part is that its underside should look as good as its topside. It is a stamp of quality – designer products are beautifully finished everywhere.

3.  Note the price. If it seems to be too good to be true then  it probably is. When you buy an authentic piece of design, you are investing in quality, heritage and longevity Рauthentic products hold their value and covered by warranty.

4.Buy only from trusted retailer. The stores that sell authentic products from one vendor and knockoffs from another should be off your list.

5. And, finally, if you are having trouble with getting it all done by yourself – hire an interior designer. It is the best way to save money if you have very little knowledge in authentic decor pieces.

I hope these few tips are helpful. Always remember by selecting authentic furniture vs. “inspired by” one, you support the industry who has shaped the world in which we live.
